Chelsea Stark wrote this piece for Mashable, published in Mashable April 17, 2016. She discusses uptake of virtual reality in general, the challenges and shortcomings, relative to device availability, cost, quality.
Simultaneously, she provides compelling proof of porn’s important role in the development and consumer acceptance of new technologies (Betamax vs. VHS for example). She quotes Alec Helmy, owner of XBiz.com, as he talks of free porn’s impact on the adult space. She mentions 3D, the fact that it turned out to be a flash in the pan, as another reason that the porn industry is suffering. Not sure I agree with that one, as I don’t know too many companies that bet big on 3D.
Then, she begins discussing BaDoinkVR, and quoting me as I get into what inspired our entry into VR Porn. She generously devotes a lot of the article to us, as well as to porn stars like Christie Stevens, who performed in two of our VR Porn scenes.
There is, additionally, a segue into teledildonics, and a discussion of Kiiroo’s Onyx, which integrates with videos inside BaDoinkVR, providing a haptic experience. The importance of haptics cannot be understated–though the market is incredibly tiny at this point. Virtual reality is all about presence, or telepresence, whatever you want to call it. And you can’t achieve presence when only two of five senses are engaged. Haptics add a third, so we’re halfway there.
A really impressive, thorough article. Thanks to Mashable and Chelsea Stark.
